Square Root

“My dance transgresses movement. My feet are sucked up by the concrete. The cement blocks around me try to mould me in their image. I’m submerged by the crowd, it engulfs and steers me along the streets.” On an original cello composition, punctuated by poems embedding breakdance into the contemporary urban universe, Anne Nguyen exposes the mathematical function through which she transforms the circular movements of breakdance on contact with the scenic space: the Square Root. This solo, Anne Nguyen’s first choreography, received the second prize of the 2009 Masdanza contemporary choreography contest.
