Agitation

Premieres between 8 & 10 October 2027 at Opéra de Massy (near Paris)
Duration approx. 50 min – All audiences and young audiences from 8 years old

Agitation sets in motion the processes through which assigning individuals and groups to antagonistic positions fosters the dynamics of permanent conflict. Three breakdancers with explosive energy engage in a game of psychological conditioning by reacting to a series of tweets posted on X by Elon Musk, projected onto the stage. “Europe is trending toward civil war.” “They absolutely want your extinction.” Structured in chapters like a series of propaganda operations, the original music transcribes each tweet into musical notes and gradually transforms them into themes, ranging from serial music to post-Romanticism and Expressionism. Sublimating the rebellious essence of breakdancing, the dancers move in ebb and flow, tending toward points of convergence and contact. The algorithm by which the music develops, from rationality to the intensification of emotions, is highlighted by the video projection of the stylized score. Reacting to each incursion to ensure the integrity and visibility of their positions, the dancers define their personal space and attempt to influence one another.

The repetition of actions and reactions demonstrates the subjects’ subjugation to the constraints imposed by the dialectic of conflict. How can we rise beyond the turmoil of the game to find common goals, without succumbing to inertia or self-denial? Agitation explores the emotional processes through which human idealism, anger, and the need for belonging are exploited to reinforce the individual’s sense of powerlessness in the face of the mechanisms of power and proposes a collective resolution through body dialog.
